How to Make the Perfect Warm Wheat Buns – Quickly and Easily!

Delicious, warm, aromatic wheat buns are in a way a tradition associated with Store Bededag (Great Prayer Day)—although many of us are happy to enjoy these warm buns a couple of weeks before the actual holiday. And well, why not? They taste fantastic!

And it’s almost incredible what a bit of cardamom can do for a piece of baked goods. When the aroma of cardamom spreads from the oven and fills the air with the scent of fresh wheat buns, your mouth will start watering immediately.

Ingredients

  • 127.999 gram Butter melted
  • 0.5 l Milk
  • 1 package Yeast
  • 55 gram Cane Sugar
  • 5.69 gram Salt
  • 1 gram Cardamom
  • 1000 gram Wheat Flour
  • 2 Egg

Instructions

    1. Pour the milk into a bowl that can go in the microwave.
    2. Warm the milk in the microwave - it should just be lukewarm/body temperature (37 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit)).
    3. Take the milk out of the microwave.
    4. Now dissolve the yeast in the milk until the yeast is dissolved.
    5. Now add sugar, egg, melted butter, and cardamom.
    6. Whisk it together.
    7. Add salt to the mixture.
    8. Add a little flour at a time while whisking.
    9. Mix it until the dough is completely homogeneous.
    10. Cover the bowl with the dough and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
    11. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
    12. Divide the now risen dough into 20 equal pieces.
    13. Shape the 20 pieces into buns.
    14. Place the buns on the baking pan - remember that the buns should be placed so close that they will grow together, as we know hveder (wheat buns).
    15. Put the stopper in your kitchen sink and fill the sink with boiling water.
    16. Place the baking pan with the buns on top of the sink.
    17. Let the buns rise for about 20 minutes.
    18. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit) (top and bottom heat).
    19. Put the baking pan in the now hot oven.
    20. Bake the buns for 15-16 minutes.
    21. Take the finished, delicious warm buns out of the oven and let them cool slightly.
    22. Serve - and remember plenty of butter 😉
