Recipe for homemade cosmopolitan
The classic American drink Cosmopolitan is a huge hit in the series “Sex and the City,” and for good reason – it tastes absolutely delightful.
We have the recipe (not the picture) from the book: “Gin – vodka – tequila – 150 new and classic cocktails“, from which the author Brian Lucas says the following about the drink:
“Cosmopolitan, which became popular in New York in the 1980s, was originally made with unflavored vodka and garnished with a lime wedge.”
Regarding vodka, he says the following:
“Vodka (a Russian word meaning “little water”) has risen from its humble origins in medieval Eastern Europe to become one of the most popular types of spirits in the world. Originally produced in Russia and Poland as far back as the 12th century, vodka is a neutral-tasting spirit traditionally made from rye but can also be made from molasses and potatoes. Vodka became popular in the USA and Western Europe after World War II, when soldiers returned home from overseas with bottles of the precious liquid. After distillation, vodka is filtered through charcoal to remove any trace of taste, smell, and color, leaving only the sharply invigorating effect of the alcohol. This makes this spirit a cocktail mixologist’s dream, as it pairs effortlessly with a variety of other ingredients. There are also many popular flavored vodkas, made by infusing regular vodka with a range of fruits and spices, such as lemon, blackcurrant, pepper, and vanilla.”

Homemade Cosmopolitan
Ingredients
- 6 cl Vodka Citrus vodka
- 3 cl Triple sec
- 6 cl Cranberry Juice
- Lime Juice A dash
Instructions
- Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into the glass.
- Garnish with flamed orange peel.
- Hold the middle of the peel between your thumb and forefinger over the glass and gently heat it with a lighter.
- Keep the peel away from yourself and use organic oranges without wax, otherwise the oils in the peel will turn black.
- While you heat the peel, press it to let the aromatic oils drip onto the surface of the drink.
- Drop the peel into the glass.
- Flaming the orange peel to release the fruit’s oils enhances the citrus flavor in this drink, which is a modern take on the Vodka Martini, sliding down smoothly.
