Recipe for bloody mary
The classic drink Bloody Mary.
We have the recipe (not the picture) from the book: “Gin – vodka – tequila – 150 new and classic cocktails“, from which the author Brian Lucas says the following about the drink:
“This distinctive classic cocktail, known to many as a good hangover cure, is believed to have been created at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in the 1920s, and it is said to have been named after Queen Mary Tudor of England, who due to the ruthless persecution of Protestants during her short reign earned the nickname »Bloody Mary«.
Originally, it was customary to serve Bloody Mary in thematic glasses shaped like a rooster or a boat, but in modern bars, the drink is commonly served in a highball. There is a lively debate among bartenders about what the perfect Bloody Mary consists of.
Of all the classic cocktails, it is the one that is easiest to adjust to individual tastes, and there are many versions.
In more and more quality-conscious bars, they make their own gourmet tomato purée, which can be added to the house’s freshly made tomato juice. These purées can be spiced with a variety of different herbs, such as rosemary and basil.
Some of the more well-known versions of Bloody Mary include clam or beef extract. You can experiment with creating your own personal classic by adding or omitting the less essential ingredients in Bloody Mary (vodka and tomato juice are the essentials) according to your preference:
Add avocado to get a Mexican aroma, or try wasabi (a Japanese spice) instead of horseradish for an Eastern touch – the possibilities are endless!”
