Recipe for barbecue sauce, homemade

There is nothing like the taste of a well-spiced barbecue sauce to spice up a juicy burger.

Barbecue sauce is ideal for many dishes – but meat that is going on the grill especially benefits from a good barbecue sauce. Pork, such as spareribs and chops, gains new life when accompanied by a good, homemade barbecue sauce or marinade.

The recipe presented here, I found many years ago when I was trying pulled pork for the first time. Back then, pulled pork was still unknown. So I went all in on making a good barbecue sauce, but with a focus on being able to make it easily in my own kitchen.

Check it out below – and enjoy!

Barbecue Sauce, homemade

Author: Food N' Fun
Course: Sauce
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 pcs. Red Onion
  • 2 pcs. Garlic
  • 50 gram Brown sugar
  • 110 gram Teriyaki sauce
  • Soya To taste
  • 200 gram Apple Juice
  • 95 gram Jack Daniels
  • 1 splash Tabasco Sauce
  • 120 gram Ketchup
  • 2.3 gram Smoked paprika Can be omitted
  • 8 gram Cornstarch Only for thickening if necessary

Instructions

  • Chop red onion and garlic and sauté them in a pan until they turn brown.
  • Add the remaining ingredients.
  • Heat the sauce up to the boiling point, then let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • After 30 minutes, you can choose to blend the sauce or thicken it with cornstarch to the desired consistency. I prefer to keep some texture, so I do not blend my sauce, but I often thicken it so it sticks better to spareribs or in a burger. If the sauce is blended, it often works better as a dip. Enjoy!
