A delicious recipe for a cocktail with rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, cherry liqueur, and dry vermouth. It is usually served with a cherry on top, but here the cherries are in the cocktail via a liqueur.

It is said to have been invented by either Eddie Woelke or Fred Kaufmann in Cuba, after Canadian actress Mary Pickford visited there with Charlie Chaplin.

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Coupe Glass

Ingredients

  • 5 cl Diplomático Mantuano Ron a dark-golden rum
  • 4 cl Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 cl Grenadine
  • 6 splash Cherry Liqueur
  • 6 splash Vermouth dry
  • Ice Cubes

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a shaker and fill it with ice.
  • Shake it for 20-30 seconds and then strain to avoid getting ice cubes in the drink.
  • First strain it through a regular bar strainer and then a fine strainer (this is called double straining).
  • Next, pour it into a coupe glass that comes straight from the freezer, so it is ice cold.
  • Garnish optionally with a pineapple leaf.
