Where do donuts come from?

Donuts are especially known from the USA, but the actual recipe comes from Eastern Europe, where people who emigrated to the USA in the late 1800s brought it with them.

Are donuts and "munkeringe" the same?

Yes, the two things are the same, and "munkeringe" is just the Danish word for donuts. It is believed that the word refers to the monks' characteristic hairstyle.

Why do donuts have a hole in the middle?

It is believed that the tradition of making a hole in the middle comes from the dough not being fully cooked otherwise, resulting in raw dough in the center.

How hot should the oil be when making donuts?

It is best if the oil is around 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) hot. If it is too cold, the dough absorbs a lot of fat, which can ruin the taste experience. Conversely, if it is too hot, there is a risk that the donut will be hard on the outside but still have raw dough inside.

Which oil is best for deep-frying?

It is best to use neutral-tasting oil, and grape seed oil is preferable. You can also use rapeseed or sunflower oil.

How long can donuts be kept?

Donuts can typically be kept for 1-2 days in an airtight container at room temperature, but if you use cream in your recipe, they should be stored in the refrigerator.

Can you freeze donuts?

You can freeze donuts, but it is recommended not to freeze them with glaze. It is better to thaw them out, then add glaze and decorations.
