Recipe for homemade espresso martini
Delicious and flavorful cocktail with espresso, Kahlua, vodka, and simple syrup.
This recipe requires a fair amount of equipment: shaker, strainer, fine-strainer, coupe cocktail glass, and an espresso machine.
We have the recipe from the book: “The Bartender’s Cocktails – The Best Recipes for Classic and New Drinks”, written by Jeppe Nothlev & Nicklas Jørgensen. They write the following about the drink:
“The Espresso Martini was invented in 1983 by Dick Bradsell, a bartending legend from London. He came up with it when a young model visited his bar in Soho one evening. After a long work week, she was very tired but refused to miss the party. So she ordered a cocktail that should: ‘Wake her up and fuck her up!’. Dick mixed a cocktail of espresso, coffee liqueur, and vodka, which he called the Espresso Martini. The three coffee beans originate from the Italian way of drinking sambuca, where one orders their sambuca ‘con la mosca’, which means served ‘with the fly’.”

Ingredients
- 3 cl Espresso 1 shot
- 1 cl Sugar Syrup
- 2 cl Kahlua
- 4 cl Vodka Absolut
- 3 pcs. Whole coffee beans
Instructions
- Chill the cocktail glass.
- Put all the liquid ingredients into the Boston glass.
- Shake it with plenty of ice for 8 seconds.
- Shake with firm and ‘long’ movements, allowing the oil from the espresso shot to bind oxygen as best as possible to create the thick, luscious foam that defines a good Espresso Martini.
- Pour the cocktail through a fine strainer into the chilled cocktail glass and garnish with three coffee beans.
