Recipe for toast
The recipe is loved by everyone – the delightful Parisian toast with ham and cheese.
Many have tried it in the hall cafeterias with a cheap boiled ham and a slice of cheese. You can also make it that way, but with a few ingredients, you can make it truly delicious.
Here, I’ve calculated 2 toasts per person, but as a light lunch/snack you might only need one?
I used my wife’s homemade toast bread for the recipe. Of course, it shouldn’t be freshly baked, as day-old bread becomes crispy more easily.

- Toaster
- Bowl
- Bread Knife Optional
- Knife
- Oven Optional
Ingredients
- 14 gram Mayonnaise homemade, or e.g., Hellmann's/Miracle Whip
- 5 gram Mustard
- Thyme fresh or dried
- Pepper from grinder
- 4 slices Bread Toast bread
- Butter
- 2 slices Ham good quality
- 4 slices cheese 2 of the slices should be cheddar. The other slices can be gouda or another favorite
Instructions
- Turn on your toaster so it's nice and warm before you get started.
- Start by making the dressing:
- Mix mayo with mustard and thyme. Add freshly ground pepper and possibly season with a little salt. If your ham is very salty, be careful with the salt here.
- If you are not using store-bought bread, it is important that your bread is as uniformly sliced in thickness as possible.
- Start by spreading butter on one side of the bread. This should be the side that faces outwards to be toasted.
- Spread some mayonnaise on 2 of the slices and spread it well.
- Place a slice of cheddar on top.
- Next, add a piece of ham and finally a cheese of your choice. It can also be cheddar.
- Then place another slice of bread on top and put it in your toaster. Press it down with the lid and start it. When it lights green (after about 5 minutes), it is done. They should be golden and the cheese should be melted.
- If you don't have a toast machine, you can put it in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit) fan-forced. It takes about 8-12 minutes.
