Recipe for fried brussels sprouts

Easy, quick, and delicious way to prepare Brussels sprouts.

The Brussels sprouts are cooked in plenty of butter, and the lemon juice brings the flavors to a higher level.

Most people (including myself) have “traumas” from the 80s and 90s with Brussels sprouts that tasted like fart/bitter.

What most people don’t know is that Brussels sprouts have been bred over the past few decades, so the sprouts are not as bitter as they used to be.

So you should give it a chance, as it tastes great and is super healthy.

Equipment

  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Stove
  • Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 200 gram Brussel Sprouts
  • Butter for frying – preferably plenty
  • 15 gram Lemon Juice
  • Parmesan freshly grated – can be omitted
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Herbs can be omitted – but e.g., chopped flat-leaf parsley

Instructions

  • Start by preparing your Brussels sprouts.
  • Remove the outer leaves and a bit of the bottom/root.
  • Rinse them under cold water and dry them with a clean tea towel.
  • Cut them in half (unless they are very large – then quarter them).
  • Heat a pan on relatively high heat (11 out of 14 on my stove) and add butter when it is hot. When it foams, add the sprouts.
  • Preferably place them with the cut side down so they can get the most sear where they are flat.
  • Fry them for a couple of minutes and turn them around.
  • Add lemon juice (and possibly parmesan) and let them cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper and add herbs if desired.
