Brown the beef cubes well in butter in a large pot.
Add ginger, garam masala, and paprika, sauté for a couple of minutes.
Add chopped tomatoes, water, and bouillon cube – let the dish simmer covered over low heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours (beef varies, check if it's tender before the next step).
Add coconut milk, carrots, and bell pepper to the pot and let simmer for another 20 minutes. Start the rice cooking during the last part of the simmering time.
If you think the sauce needs thickening, stir a little cornstarch into water and add to the pot, giving a quick boil so the sauce thickens.
Season the dish and serve with rice and bread
