Recipe for white mulled wine
Whether you spell it “gløgg” or “glögg,” it’s a delightful drink that belongs to the Danish Christmas!
Traditionally, it’s made with red wine or port, but white gløgg is actually a really delicious alternative to the classic red variety.
White gløgg often comes in a few more different variations compared to red gløgg, at least in my opinion. It’s probably because it’s not a classic in the same way as the red one. Some use cloves in white gløgg, others don’t; some add a bit of elderberry juice, while others use lemon juice… Just to name a few variations. There are many more!
Here’s the recipe that I think tastes delightfully Christmassy!
White Gløgg Recipe

Ingredients
- 2 dl Orange Juice
- 1 dl Lemon Juice
- 7 dl Apple Juice
- 2 tsp. Vanilla Sugar
- 2 Star Anise
- 0.5 tsp. Cardamom seed
- 3 Cinnamon Stick
- 1 tsp. Whole cloves
- 0.5 tsp. Pepper freshly ground
- 70 cl White Wine 1 bottle
- 2 dl Rome white
- Sugar to taste
Instructions
- Pour orange juice and lemon juice into a medium-sized pot. You can also use the juice from 2 organic oranges and 1 organic lemon and add the orange peels and lemon peel to the pot. This way, you'll get even more flavor to the mulled wine.
- Now add apple juice and all the spices (except the sugar).
- Let it simmer for about fifteen minutes without a lid.
- Turn off the stove and let the mixture cool slightly before pouring it into a jar.
- Let the jar sit in the fridge for 2 hours (or longer. The longer it sits, the stronger the flavor).
- Pour white wine and the mulled wine mixture into a pot and let it heat up. It is important that it does not start to boil. Adjust the taste with sugar and white rum (you can also use dark rum) and distribute the rum into glasses, optionally adding raisins and almond slivers.
