Recipe for swedish sausage dish
Swedish sausage stew is a good, old classic that one never tires of. The dish is quick to prepare, it doesn’t cost much and most children love it. What more can one ask for?
Use high-quality sausages, freshly boiled potatoes, and a sprinkle of chives on top, and the dish will also appeal to adults.
Swedish sausage stew might be the world’s easiest dish! It is a true classic, popular in many Danish homes, especially with children. It is surely loved by both children and adults, and there’s no wonder why – the dish is simple and tastes great. There aren’t many frills or “hidden” ingredients in Swedish sausage stew, and if there’s anything that generally goes down well with kids, it’s straightforward dishes like Swedish sausage stew, spaghetti bolognese, pizza, sausage rolls, and so on.
Despite its name, the dish actually has nothing to do with Sweden. Swedish sausage stew is as Danish as it gets! The name is believed to have originated from some Danes who once went camping in Sweden and at the end of the trip made a stew from various leftovers: sausages, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and so on.
Swedish sausage stew is a dish many Danes are served throughout their childhood, and if anyone has ever been a scout, they’re guaranteed to have encountered the dish many times! It’s definitely a genuine scout dish to make over an open fire out in nature 🙂
And yes, then you move out, and it’s like it gets a bit forgotten? It’s quite strange, actually, because it’s a really cheap dish to make. And the ingredients are ones that most people have on hand, even if they’re on a tight budget, such as being a student.
Swedish sausage stew can be made in many exciting ways, but traditionally it should simply consist of some cheap sausages, boiled potatoes cut into bite-sized pieces, and finely chopped onions – all wrapped in a creamy and spicy tomato sauce with cream and paprika – and of course, sprinkled with chives on top! You can also make it with curry and for example add bacon, leeks, and carrots. If you want to go really fancy, you can try using some real gourmet sausages and maybe add a bit of red wine to the sauce…?
