Recipe for soft and fried onions
Onions are a fantastic ingredient that is a central part of all our kitchens.
I love to play in the kitchen and experiment with new ways to prepare my ingredients. Here I have tested preparing common (yellow) onions, red onions, and shallots.
The idea was to peel and halve them, then fry them over medium heat to soften the onions and bring out their sweetness.

Soft and Fried Onions
Equipment
- Cutting Board
- Knife
- Frying Pan
- Brush
Ingredients
- 1 pcs. Onion Use 2 if they are small. Can be substituted with shallots or red onions
Instructions
- Cut the onion lengthwise. Remove the peel but leave the ends on so they are easy to hold together.Heat a pan over medium heat (7 out of 14 on my stove).Brush the cut side of the onions with balsamic vinegar. If you have many onions, you can pour the balsamic vinegar into a bowl and dip the onions in it instead.Let them fry until they are soft on the top. I gave mine about 15 minutes. If you like, you can certainly add 1-2 tablespoons of red wine 2 minutes before they are done.Serve immediately.
Notes
If you use shallots or red onions, I think 10 minutes is enough on the pan.
