Recipe for roethlisburger slider edition

In the USA, sports are synonymous with food.
In the context of the NFL (American football), there has been a special hype built up over the years around a very unique burger.
The Roethlisburger is constructed and named after the living legend, QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger.
I write more about this in the note below.

This is a true man’s burger with an astonishingly large amount of meat and historically minimal greens.
This burger comes in a myriad of versions; here you see my version, as a Slider.

Roethlisburger Slider Edition

World's best burger - as a slider! In the USA, sports equals food. In connection with the NFL (American football), a hype has been built over the years around a very special burger.
Author: Food N' Fun
Course: Dinner, Lunch, Snack, Starter
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 9 pcs. Buns I bake slider buns at about 50 grams per bun.
  • 100 gram Mayonnaise If you don't make it yourself, Hellman's is good
  • 10 pcs. Egg Scrambled egg
  • 100 gram Cream
  • 1000 gram Ground Beef I prefer a high fat content for burgers
  • 4 pcs. Onion
  • 500 gram Cheddar cheese Preferably from a "block"
  • 500 gram Bacon
  • 200 gram Ketchup ONLY Heinz (explanation in notes)
  • 100 gram Butter melted
  • 2 cloves Garlic Pressed
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  • Building a Roethlisburger requires a bit of preparation.
  • You need to make your Scrambled Eggs, Cheddar mixture, and fry your bacon first.

Cheddar Onion Mixture:

  • Slice the onions into strips from a halved onion.
  • Sauté these in a pan without browning them.
  • Add your cheddar over medium heat and let it melt together with the soft onions.

Scrambled Eggs:

  • A standard scrambled egg.
  • Whisk eggs with cream, salt, and pepper, pour into a medium-warm pan, possibly with a bit of butter.
  • Gently stir with a spatula until the eggs set and form clumps. When everything is set, the eggs are ready.
  • You can dry-fry the eggs here, or keep a more moist version.

Giant Patty:

  • Take 1 kg of minced beef, season it lightly with salt and pepper, possibly a bit of optional spice like paprika, chili, or similar. Shape it into a large square, slightly larger than your nine buns placed in a square. A height of about 1.5 cm.
  • Throw the big patty in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit), possibly combined with grill. The time depends on your oven, but about 10-20 minutes. Keep an eye on your patty. If you can make (and flip) this on the grill. Do so!

Garlic Butter:

  • Melt butter and add pressed garlic.

Roethlisburger:

  • Bun bottoms- Mayonnaise- Scrambled Eggs- Giant Patty- Cheddar Onion Mixture- Bacon (pre-fried)- Plenty of Heinz ketchup- Top bun spread with mayonnaise.
  • When the burgers are assembled in an ovenproof dish, brush the top with garlic butter and place it all in a preheated oven at about 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) for 10-15 minutes. This gives a delicious crust on the bun and allows you to serve a warm burger.

Notes

History of the Burger

When Jeff Trebac, owner of Peppi’s, named a burger after Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, he likely never dreamed it would develop into what it did. Roethlisberger was drafted by the Steelers in 2004, and when Ben - thanks to injuries to both the 1st and 2nd choices at the position - was thrown into the fire, things moved quickly. The burger, which is also referred to as a sandwich, was thus already established before Roethlisberger truly made the 2004 season special. By going 13-0 in the regular season and 14-1 overall, the hysteria around the new QB star knew no bounds - and everyone wanted to taste the burger with (nearly) the same name.
One might think that the owner was happy selling 150 Roethlisburgers a day at $7 each during periods, but because the burger took ten minutes to make, it was a small nightmare for the chefs to manage serving and processing. In 2014, the burger celebrated its 10th anniversary, and although Pittsburgh is no longer quite at the top in the NFL, the history, recipe, and taste of the Roethlisburger remain alive and well. The ketchup in this burger can only be Heinz since the Steelers' home stadium is Heinz Field, the place where Ben laid the foundation for the legend of both the player and the burger.
