Recipe for pizza horns with tomato, ham, and cheese

These pizza rolls are simply so soft and fluffy with delicious fillings of tomato, ham, and cheese inside. A totally classic kid-friendly pizza wannabe, just in a child-friendly to-go snack version.

The dough can be prepared the day before, and then you have super quick delicious, freshly baked rolls the next day, which are ready to pop into the lunchbox or take on a trip.

I use Manitoba flour for the dough, as it just makes it extra airy, soft, and delicious. But if you don’t have it, you can easily just use regular wheat flour.

This recipe yields 16 rolls, but you can optionally make half into sausage rolls as the dough is also great for that.

If you need the rolls right away, you can use 50 g of yeast instead and just let the dough rise for an hour – then it’s ready to be turned into delicious rolls.

  • Oven
  • Brush

Ingredients

Dej

  • 15 gram Yeast
  • 150 gram Water lukewarm water
  • 150 gram Milk
  • 1 pcs. Egg
  • 45 gram Oil
  • 6 gram Salt
  • 250 gram Manitoba Flour
  • 350 gram Wheat Flour

Fill

  • 50 gram Ketchup
  • 1 can Tomato Puree
  • 3 gram Salt
  • Pepper a little
  • 2 gram Oregano dried
  • 1 package Ham Strips
  • 1 bag Grated cheese

Instructions

Dough

  • Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water. Stir in milk, egg, and oil.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and mix the dough well. Knead it on a flour-dusted surface.
  • Let it rise in the fridge overnight.
  • The next day, divide the dough into 2, and roll each piece out into a circle on a flour-dusted surface. They should be 3-4 mm thick.

Filling

  • Mix ketchup, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and oregano to make a pizza sauce. (Alternatively, you can skip this step and buy a ready-made pizza sauce). Spread the sauce on the two circles.
  • Distribute ham and cheese on the circles.
  • Cut each circle into 8 "pizza slices" (see the image below), and roll each slice from the wide end down to the tip. Place the horns on a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) (fan-forced) and let it heat up while the horns rise for another 10 minutes.
  • Brush the horns with a little milk and bake them for 18-20 minutes until they are golden and fully baked.
