Recipe for negroni
Recipe for the popular Italian cocktail classic with a twist: Negroni.
Imagine a sidewalk café by the Italian Riviera in the 1920s. It’s mid-afternoon, the sun is blazing from a clear sky. You need something refreshing – what do you order? A Negroni. Naturally. That’s what all the fashionable Italians did at this time.
There is a rather famous phrase typically associated with a certain British gentleman driving an Aston Martin when he orders his Dry Martini, and a true Negroni should actually be “stirred, not shaken”. However, it is quite common to shake a Negroni, and that’s what I do in this recipe.
In 2013, International Negroni Week was introduced. That’s right, a whole week dedicated to celebrating the Italian apéritif! The week falls in June, where numerous Negroni enthusiasts participate with their own stands. For every Negroni you buy at one of these stands, you are helping to support the charities that Negroni Week collaborates with. So if you couldn’t already enjoy a glass with a clear conscience, you can now 😉
The cocktail is what you might call an “adult cocktail,” as it is a bit bitter, thanks to the Campari. Nonetheless, it is a highly popular, Italian, and summery sundowner that I am personally quite fond of!
