Recipe for homemade vanilla sugar

Vanilla sugar is an indispensable ingredient in many desserts and baked goods, but did you know that you can easily make your own at home and simultaneously reduce food waste? When you’ve used the aromatic seeds from your vanilla beans, it’s a shame to throw away the empty pods. They still hold plenty of flavor, which you can utilize by making your own vanilla sugar.

By reusing the empty vanilla pods and combining them with regular sugar, you not only get an amazing flavor enhancer, but you also save money since vanilla beans can be quite expensive. This homemade vanilla sugar can be used for everything from cookies to pancakes and provides an extra depth of flavor that you won’t find in commercial vanilla sugar.

Store your empty vanilla pods in a tall, thin glass with a lid until you’ve collected between 2-4 pods. Ingredients

  • 2-4 pcs. Vanilla Pod preferably emptied of seeds and dried
  • 100-150 gram Sugar

Instructions

  • Store the empty vanilla pods in a tall, thin jar with a lid until you have collected about four pods.
  • Cut the empty vanilla pods into smaller pieces.
  • Blend sugar and vanilla pods in a blender until the mixture is completely fine.
  • Sift the vanilla sugar to remove any large pieces.
  • Store the vanilla sugar in an airtight jar.
