Recipe for homemade fried onion
Homemade fried onions may seem like an extravagant luxury and difficult to make. They taste super delicious, require very few ingredients, and I want to guarantee that your fried hot dog or steak sandwich will reach new heights with these onions.
The fried onions can both be fried/cooked in oil on the pan or deep-fried. I chose the deep fryer for this recipe.

Homemade fried onion
Ingredients
- 2 pcs. Onion Use 3 if they are small
- 106 gram Wheat Flour
- Salt optional extra spices, such as pepper, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Oil For the deep fryer/pot
Instructions
- Start by turning on your deep fryer to 170 degrees Celsius (338 degrees Fahrenheit). It typically takes 20-25 minutes to get the oil warm.
- Peel your two onions and cut them into rings. I typically do this by cutting off the top and continuing in the same way. Otherwise, cut them into slices or coarsely chop them.
- Distribute the flour in a small bag and place the onion rings/pieces inside.
- Shake the bag well so the flour is well distributed on the onions.
- When the oil is warm, pour the onions into the deep fryer and fry them until they are golden. It takes about 5 minutes.
- Take them out of the pot and place them on absorbing paper. Season them with a little salt and extra spices. They are now ready to be served.
Notes
If you don't have a deep fryer, you can cook them in a pot with oil. If you don't have a thermometer, you can use the rule of thumb by placing a small wooden stick or onion ring in the oil before starting. If it sizzles around it, then it's ready to fry.
