Recipe for guacamole with tomatoes

This guacamole is creamy, vibrant, and packed with fresh flavors. Made traditionally with a mortar and pestle, it brings out the natural richness of ripe avocados, balanced by tomato, onion, chili, cilantro, lime, and salt. Perfect for dipping tortilla chips, topping tacos, or serving alongside any Mexican-inspired dish.

It can be made in 5 minutes and is perfect for nachos, burritos, tacos, and a chili con carne.

Guacamole is one of Mexico’s most beloved and recognizable dishes. Its history dates back to the Aztecs, who mashed avocados with salt and other local ingredients. The word “guacamole” comes from the Nahuatl word ahuacamolli, meaning “avocado sauce.”

Traditional Preparation

Traditionally, guacamole is made using a molcajete—a volcanic stone mortar and pestle—which helps release the essential oils in the chili and cilantro, creating a deeper, more integrated flavor. While modern versions may be made in a simple mixing bowl, using a mortar and pestle connects you to centuries of culinary heritage.

The Balance of Flavors

The beauty of guacamole lies in its balance: the creamy richness of avocado, the brightness of lime, the kick from chili, the freshness of cilantro, and the juiciness of ripe tomatoes. It’s a versatile dish that pairs with almost anything—whether scooped with tortilla chips, layered in tacos, or served alongside grilled fish or meat.

Tips for the Best Guacamole

For the best guacamole, use ripe but firm avocados, fresh lime juice, and tomatoes at their peak. Make it just before serving for the most vibrant flavor and color.

A Timeless Favorite

Whether prepared for a casual snack or as part of a festive Mexican feast, guacamole is a timeless celebration of fresh, simple ingredients.
