Recipe for delicious waffles
There is almost nothing like the aroma that accompanies homemade waffles. The scent is distinctively sweet and enticing, and waffles are a must-have item on the brunch table. Furthermore, they work perfectly as an afternoon snack and dessert, as part of a cake table for occasions like birthdays or other cozy gatherings. Yes, there is hardly any “sweet” situation where waffles aren’t more than welcome 🙂
And waffles, yes, they can be made in a myriad of ways! There are the regular crispy waffles, Belgian waffles, oatmeal waffles, lentil flour waffles, cocoa waffles, savory waffles, spinach waffles… There’s even “French toast waffles,” believe it or not.
It’s so delightful when you have your fixed habits and rituals, and both Pancake Sunday and Waffle Sunday are definitely “a thing” that is practiced by many! 😉
What is the difference between waffles and pancakes?
Are the two things one and the same, just prepared in different ways? The answer is no.
Traditionally, waffle batter contains more fat than pancake batter. Waffles need to be crispy on the outside, and that’s where the fat helps achieve the crispiness.
Common Waffle Mistakes
There are some classic mistakes that often occur when I see people making waffles. I have outlined them here as a warning for everyone else, hehe.
- People forget the time: Sure, waffles should be crispy (on the outside!), but not burnt!
- Too much liquid in the batter: It doesn’t work when the liquid is thin as glaze.
- Too little liquid in the batter: The batter should be fluid enough to run a bit when you tilt the bowl.
- The waffle iron is too dry: It’s so frustrating when the finished waffle just won’t release from the waffle iron because you’ve been afraid of using fat and skipped adding a bit of butter or oil to the waffle iron – sometimes you need a little fat on the hot iron.
Waffles Like Grandma Made Them
Sometimes it’s wonderful to have the classic recipes that we grew up with, and that’s exactly what I have a recipe for today: Classic, sweet, and regular waffles that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – it pleases everyone‘s taste and tastes deliciously delightful!
The recipe is super easy to follow, so don’t be afraid to get the kids involved in the kitchen.
The waffles can be served with Nutella, fresh fruit, rhubarb compote, puree or foam made from berries, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, dulce de leche, syrup, strawberry sorbet, various types of ice cream, whipped cream, crème fraîche – yes, it can actually be quite hard to choose. Feel free to put a variety on the table, so people can decorate their waffles as they wish. That’s good service, and it looks quite lavish!
