Recipe for chicken thighs in airfryer/activefry
In an era where we’re all seeking healthier alternatives to traditional frying, the air fryer has opened the door to a new age of easy and delicious cooking. Its ability to deliver results close to deep-frying without almost any use of oil is groundbreaking. And what could be better to test the limits of this technology than chicken thighs – one of my favorite dishes.
If you want to get started with chicken thighs in an Airfryer/Activefry, I have a few tips and tricks to succeed:
- Preheat your Airfryer. Run it for a few minutes before adding the food so that it’s warm and ready when you start cooking your chicken. This is optional, but I feel it helps the skin to puff up and get a crispy “fried” texture.
- Marinate/sauce at the end. If you want to coat the meat in something, wait until they are fully cooked if they need to be crispy. Otherwise, you can of course BBQ marinate them before if you don’t need such a crispy crust.
- Don’t open during cooking. Since an Airfryer is sealed, it’s hard to judge your chicken’s doneness based on appearance. Check the chicken’s temperature when you open the Airfryer to flip them – don’t open it just to check the temperature, as too much heat will escape.
- Use a digital thermometer. When your timer is done, immediately test the temperature of the chicken pieces with a digital thermometer inserted into the center of the thickest part of the chicken thigh without touching the bone. Chicken should be 74 degrees inside. If the chicken hasn’t reached 74 degrees internally, add an additional 2-5 minutes of cooking time.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket. Just like the oil in a deep fryer loses its temperature by adding too much at once, the same happens for an Airfryer. It helps to get hot air to circulate around your ingredient and it will “fry” the surface. If you overcrowd it, the air cannot move around and touch all the surfaces.
So prepare your taste buds, turn on your air fryer, and let’s explore together how you can transform simple chicken thighs into a delicious meal. Whether you’re an air fryer veteran or new to the game, I promise this post will give you new inspiration and skills to impress both yourself and your guests. Let’s get started!
