Smoke Gun
Summer and good weather mean barbecue season and fun with friends and acquaintances under the open sky. And the taste of the grill is something quite special. Whether you are grilling meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, or fruit, the grill and smoke provide a unique depth to the food, significantly enhancing the entire dining experience.
And it is certainly not only in the summer months or barbecue season that we love the smoky flavor that the grill provides. This is one of the reasons why we might decide to fire up the grill even when the weather is not at its best.
At many restaurants, it is also possible to get that delightful deep smoky flavor regardless of the season, for example, when you order a really good steak at a steakhouse.
However, you don’t actually need to fire up the grill, reserve a table at a steakhouse, or settle for buying a pre-smoked mackerel to enjoy smoky flavors. A smoke gun can actually do it for you.
Besides functioning as a flavor enhancer, there is also a certain “show value” to a smoke gun. Don’t say it’s not a bit impressive to bring out in front of guests! The show value is also expressed in other ways, but we’ll return to that.
With a smoke gun, you have the opportunity to impart cold smoke to, for example, fatty fish, eggs, butter, and meat. Compared to real smoking, it is somewhat limited how much smoky flavor can adhere to the meat, so it’s primarily fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel as well as eggs that benefit from the smoke gun.
“The Smoking Gun® Pro” from Sage has taken all the best from the previous model. Sage has worked with some of the world’s best chefs to produce this new model, which has several improved features: For example, it is more robust, quieter, and has adjustable airflow.
You simply place the ingredient in a bag, container, or smoke dome and then “shoot” the smoke into it.
Where the gun truly makes its mark is when you really want to impress your guests or date. Try, for instance, serving an appetizer with a smoke-filled dome over it. As you remove the dome at the dining table, the delightful smoky aroma fills the room – and the mood is set.
We found the gun at Sousvide.dk.
