Update Summer 2022:

The amazing machines, Thermomix TM5 and TM6, are unfortunately not available now. Fortunately, we have found a really good alternative for you. Kenwood KCook multicooker CCL401WH is the right choice. The machine can do everything the Thermomix can, and Kenwood, as always, has made a real quality product that you can enjoy in your kitchen for many years to come.

I recommend that you buy the Kenwood KCook through my link to elgiganten.dk. This way, you ensure good service and simultaneously support the work on GastroFun.

Thermomix TM5

The Thermomix is a product you encounter more and more often. If you have been following Masterchef on TV, it is widely used. But what is it? – why has this kitchen appliance been SO hyped in recent years?

What is a Thermomix?

Thermomix® combines the functions of 12 kitchen machines in one: it can weigh, mix, grind, knead, whip, cook, control heat, stir, and emulsify. Whether it’s preparing the daily meals for the family, a quick snack for one person, or gastronomic masterpieces – all succeed in a jiffy. The many Thermomix-tested recipes vary from hard-boiled eggs, salad dressings, dips, and pesto to steamed fish and risotto to ice cream. If you forgot to buy powdered sugar or vanilla sugar? Then it’s no problem because this can also be easily and quickly made with the Thermomix®. It surprises many that Thermomix® can also easily make ice cream, knead dough, and mix refreshing smoothies and shakes. It’s no wonder Thermomix® is the world’s most famous kitchen machine of its kind – more than 7 million enthusiastic users enjoy working with it every day. (Copied from the manufacturer’s website).

TM5-3

It all sounds very good – but is it good? Does it work? And do you use it?

All questions that are very hard to answer if you haven’t tried it – so I set out to do just that.
Thermomix is sold, among other ways, through consultants around the country. These also occasionally hold demonstrations of this machine, my good colleague Anders (who also shares visions about cooking) and I booked a session and went off.

We were not disappointed, the visit with Vibeke was no disappointment, Vibeke is very skilled and welcoming. We all felt at home in her kitchen, and all questions were answered with great professional confidence.

TM5-4

The machine itself – did not disappoint either! As an avid gadget lover, it takes a lot to impress. It did. You really feel that this is a quality product.

During the evening, we tried quite a few things:

– Lemon curd
– Orange marmalade
– Smoothie
– Fish soup with steamed leeks and steamed salmon
– Chili Con Carne
– Homemade strawberry ice cream (it took 3 minutes)
EVERYTHING WAS MADE ONLY ON THE THERMOMIX!
TM5-5
The machine blends, chops, steams, cooks, and much more – like a dream!
I am very impressed with how efficient it is. As an example, when we needed powdered sugar for the ice cream, we quickly made it ourselves. The blender part pulverized regular sugar into the finest powdered sugar in 2 seconds. Sugar costs less than half per kilo compared to powdered sugar.
I must mention that the ice cream was absolutely wonderful, airy, delicious, and tasted great.TM5-6

The Thermomix has built-in induction and can therefore heat and cook entire dishes. The machine’s blade is designed to rotate both ways, blending one way, stirring, and kneading the other way – smart.

Small details include that there is a recipe chip on the side so you get recipes directly on the screen. In fact, as shown in the picture below, you can get wraps for the machine so it fits better in your kitchen.

Would I use a Thermomix? – yes, undoubtedly – on a daily basis. Not least, my children would be able to make various dishes. The machine tells you how much, when, and how.. EASY!
Can I afford it? – unfortunately not yet, but it’s at the top of all my lists.
Is there an alternative? – yes, see among others Kenwood Kcook at Elgiganten.
Is it expensive? – yes, expect to pay between 8,000 and 10,000 kroner for this beast of a kitchen appliance. You can then purchase extra jugs for quick switching of dishes, approximately 1,600 kroner for a jug.
Is it worth it? – that’s the big question. The Thermomix is not a new thing, previous models have been seen to last up to 30 years. If this also applies to this model, I personally think that if you use it and continue to use it – it is worth the money.
Vorwerk, which makes the machine, provides good service, not least on their blades, I believe Vibeke said a lifetime warranty.
It should also be mentioned that the Thermomix is used extensively at all the country’s largest and finest restaurants. Our consultant told us that Noma has 6 of them lined up.

I have contacted Vorwerk regarding a test model so that I can test it thoroughly here on the site. I am still awaiting a response.

Until then, I must continue to save up and be excited. Because a Thermomix – it’s coming!
