Festive Opening of Too Good To Go’s New Hub in Frederiksberg
On the warmest day of the year so far, the opening reception of the world’s first Too Good To Go store was held. With a visit from Her Royal Highness Princess Marie, the hub was inaugurated on Nyelandsvej, Frederiksberg.
Her Royal Highness Princess Marie helped inaugurate the new premises and attended speeches from Too Good To Go’s CEO Mette Lykke and founder of Stop Wasting Food, Selina Juul. The princess then collected the very first goodie bag from the store, marking the official opening of the store.
At the subsequent reception, surplus beer and cider from Eventyrligt Øl and snacks of surplus bread from Reinh Van Hauen were enjoyed. Also in attendance were Urtekram’s CEO Peter Overgaard, Mette Lykke, Selina Juul, and the founders of Too Good To Go.
The hub opened to the public on August 9 at 9 a.m., and since the opening, there has been a lot of activity in the new premises, as happy food waste savers and curious neighbors have stopped by to pick up surplus items or to have a chat about the new place. And that is precisely the purpose of the new place, as the premises – in addition to being a pick-up location for surplus goods – will also serve as a gathering place for anyone interested in reducing food waste.
The store is expected to be open every day of the week.
About Too Good To Go
Too Good To Go is the world’s largest online marketplace for surplus food, and its vision is a world where all produced food is eaten and not wasted. To date, nearly 6 million meals have been saved, and the app has 4.6 million users across eight countries.
The app was founded by five young entrepreneurs and came into existence in 2016. On June 1, 2017, Mette Lykke, co-founder of Endomondo, assumed the position of CEO at Too Good To Go.
Among the investors are Birgit Aaby and Preben Damgaard, and there are a total of 160 employees, about 50 of whom are in Denmark.
At the store on Nyelandsvej 21C in Frederiksberg, users are to continue saving goodie bags via the app and then collect surplus items during the store’s opening hours. The place functions as a pickup location where wholesalers and large producers without their own retail premises can distribute their surplus goods. Through the app, you can save goodie bags from Urtekram, Unilever, Eat Grim, Strøm & Svendsen, Eventyrligt Øl, Miss Bagel, Mad Croc Energy, FlowerKing, Level Water, The Whole Company, Raw Mania, and Nordisk Tang.
The bags must then be picked up at Nyelandsvej 21C during the store’s opening hours.
