Recipe for gin basil smash
Then there is the delicious and fresh Basil Smash, which evokes thoughts of the Mediterranean and its warm, exotic climes.
Smash cocktails refer to cocktails that typically consist of a mixture of spirits, sugar syrup, fresh herbs and/or fruit, as well as ice and soda water/tonic water.
The nickname “smash” comes from the fact that the ingredients are smashed to release the natural essential oils, for example, from basil leaves, as is the case in this recipe.
As early as the 18th century, this method was used to transfer the flavor from natural flavorings to various cocktails.
However, Gin Basil Smash first saw the light of day in 2008, when Jörg Meyer, the owner of the prominent cocktail bar, Bar Le Lion in Hamburg, won the award for Best New Cocktail at the festival, Tales of the Cocktail.
