Ginger Shot

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 175 gram Fresh ginger approximately
  • 85 gram Turmeric Root
  • 2 Lemon
  • 1 liters Water
  • Pepper from the grinder - optional
  • Honey optional

Instructions

  • First, the ginger and turmeric root need to be cleaned and peeled. Then cut both into thin slices of approximately half a centimeter thickness. A good tip is to wear gloves first, as turmeric stains a lot! Next, lemon juice needs to be pressed. Start by peeling the lemons. You only need to remove a very thin layer, so use a thin peeler. And feel free to save the peels for something like lemon mousse, lemon curd, or lemon tart. I got approximately 2 deciliters of juice from the lemons. Now, the ginger and turmeric should go into a pot and be covered with water and the juice from the lemons. Let it boil for 1 hour. Let it cool down, then add the honey. Honey doesn’t do well when heated, at least not if you want to retain all its beneficial properties. If you're not using honey, you don't need to let it cool down. Pour the mixture through a sieve to retain only the clear liquid. Then pour it into a bottle that you have sterilized first. Put the bottle in the fridge.
