Recipe for homemade donuts
I love donuts. Here is my take on delicious homemade donuts that can be used for everything from a snack to a kid’s birthday party or hanging out with friends or family.
Donuts, the delicious snack with endless possibilities. They can be jazzed up with many different toppings according to your preferences and can even be used in both sweet and savory dishes.
I typically prepare my donuts in a deep fryer, but you can easily use a pot on the stove. I usually use a neutral-flavored oil, such as canola or sunflower oil, when frying my donuts.

Homemade Donuts
Equipment
- Deep fryer can be replaced with a pot of oil
- Kitchen Scale
- Bowl
- Microwave (an option)
- Pot (an option)
- Donut cutter (an option)
Ingredients
Donut Dough
- 80 gram Butter
- 400 gram Whole Milk
- 25 gram Yeast
- 2 pcs. Egg
- 140 gram Sugar
- 6 gram Coarse salt
- 750-800 gram Wheat Flour
Glaze
- 80 gram Powdered Sugar
- 20 gram Cocoa
- 22.5-30 gram Water
Instructions
- Melt the butter, either in a bowl in the microwave or in a pot.
- Pour the butter into a new bowl and mix in yeast, milk, and eggs.
- Stir it together with sugar.
- Sift flour and salt into the mixture.
- Stir it well together; the dough should be quite soft.
- Cover the bowl, for example, with a lid or a clean tea towel.
- Let it rise for about 1 hour, preferably in a warm place.
- Sprinkle flour on the kitchen counter and roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm.
- Cut out your donuts. If you don't have a cutter, use glasses or small bowls. They should be about 9-10 cm in diameter for the entire donut and make a hole in the middle. The hole should be about 2.5-3.5 cm in diameter.
- The leftover dough can of course be rolled out again, so almost all of it can be used.
- You can of course also cook the holes separately; they will end up looking like donut holes.
- Place the cut-out donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rise for another 20-30 minutes with a clean tea towel over them.
Fried Donuts
- Turn on your deep fryer or pot of oil. The oil should be 180-185 degrees Celsius (356-365 degrees Fahrenheit).
- It's important not to put too many donuts in at once, as it will lower the temperature of your oil too much, and instead of crisp frying, they will just soak up the oil.
- Cook a few at a time, frying them for 1.5-2 minutes on each side. Take them out of the oil and place them on a baking tray with paper towels to absorb the oil.
- If you wish, you can dip them directly in sugar/cane sugar or you can glaze them instead.
Cocoa Glaze
- Put cocoa and powdered sugar in a small bowl
- Add a little bit of water and stir well with a fork.
- Continue to add a bit of water until it has the right consistency.
- Carefully dip your donuts in the glaze and let them dry.
- They are now ready to serve.
- Enjoy.
