It is not revolutionary to say that it is a really good idea to eat a lot of vegetables. In the past, vegetables would appear on the table in the form of boiled carrots, warmed peas, or blanched cauliflower. However, this somewhat older way of preparing vegetables has taken a back seat. In the foreground now are the salads.

Why are salads just so good?

While some love salads on the dinner table, others are more critical. However, it is indeed a good idea to eat vegetables, fruits, etc., in this way. Firstly, there is a wide array of delicious combination possibilities – it is actually only imagination (and taste buds) that set the limits for what salads can be created. Salads thus help create variety in the meals eaten both at lunch and dinner.

Vegetables and fruits also have a high vitamin content – something that many people actually get too little of. Vegetables therefore help keep your body healthy and young. A good idea is to use seasonal fruits and vegetables in your salads. This is because seasonal produce has a really high vitamin content and is therefore good for your digestion, your skin, your energy levels, and your health in general.

Editorial:  Remember that dishes without meat typically need to be well-seasoned. Read much more about it here.

Which salads are popular?

Just as you probably have a favorite cut of meat or prefer new potatoes over “regular” ones, you surely also have a favorite salad. For instance, you might prefer a delicious pasta salad. The pasta ensures the dish has some substance. And then it’s just a matter of mixing the pasta with all the best vegetables and perhaps tossing it all in a delicious homemade pesto.

Or perhaps you are especially fond of Waldorf salad, which is considered somewhat of a winter salad. The sharp celery, dancing on the tongue along with grapes and delicious, crunchy walnuts, is often served on Christmas Eve alongside the Christmas duck. Although the salad is immensely tasty and contains vegetables, nuts, and fruit, it does not quite have the same health value as a green salad – after all, there is a fair amount of dressing in this recipe. Nevertheless, it belongs to the winter season and especially the Christmas period.

To mention other combinations that are also popular and of a more modern character, cauliflower couscous can be highlighted. It might sound a bit odd, but it is just a really delicious salad. Because cabbage is hot! The coarse vegetables, including cabbage, are incredibly healthy and good for us. When making cauliflower couscous, it is really advantageous if you have a slicing machine in the kitchen, a food processor, etc. Because the cauliflower must be almost pulverized into small fine pieces. You can then mix the couscous with red onion, feta, parsley, apricots, or whatever else you fancy.

Why are more and more people going “the plant way”?

Nowadays, you meet more and more people who “come out” as vegetarians, vegans, or flexitarians. More are indeed choosing salads and leaving meat behind. It is not necessarily a total cut-off from meat, but meatless days are on the rise.

For some, this is an active choice due to awareness of animal welfare. For others, it is about saving the world’s resources in a time when climate change is knocking on the door. There are also many health benefits to eating less meat and more vegetables. Among other things, you will experience cleaner and more elastic skin. At the same time, you will experience a balanced stomach. So, take a meat-free day every now and then and choose a greener alternative – it might become a great success.
