Baklava
Easy and delicious recipe for probably one of the most well-known types of cakes from the Middle East.
Ingredients
- 1 package Filo Pastry
- 200 gram Pistachios
- 200 gram Almonds
- 350 gram Butter
- 300 gram Sugar
- 200 gram Water
- Lemon Juice
Instructions
- Start by greasing the baking pan with butter.
- Next, add the first layer of phyllo dough.
- I add about 2 pieces before adding another piece of dough.
- Continue this way until you have used half of the dough.
- Chop almonds and pistachios very finely!
- I use a mini chopper because I find it easier.
- Add the chopped nuts to the dough, and now continue the method by adding a piece of dough on top.
- Continue with dough and butter until there is no more dough.
- When the dough is used, brush butter on top and cut the cake into the pieces you want.
- I typically cut mine in different sizes.
- Now put your baklava in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit), for about half an hour.
- When it is golden, it is done!
- Now make the sugar syrup by boiling sugar with water and lemon juice.
- Pour this over your baklava as soon as they are out of the oven (the syrup should be cooled before pouring it over! So it is a good idea to make it as soon as the cake is in the oven).
- Bon appetit.
